The club travelled to Donegal Town today (5/12/09) for the second event in the Donegal
Sportshall series. Similar to last week in Dungloe, only three clubs were in
attendance. However, with the host club and Rosses AC providing some quality
athletes, there was still plenty of competition, noise and excitement throughout the two hour event.
The club had a total of eighteen athletes
that made the journey. Once again, we had a few debutants making what we hope
was the first of many appearances in club colours. The day itself started with
the individual one lap races, leading on to two lap relays for all competitors. Several
club athletes made a step up in age group to compete in the various events including Cate Smyth, Corey McGettigan, and club
debutants Tyler Toland and Hannah McGettigan. The most promising aspect of their
participation was the fact that all of these young athletes put in sterling performances to match their older competitors
stride for stride. A promising future ahead no doubt.
The day itself provided an opportunity
for all our young athletes to compete across a number of different events. These
events included the individual one lap race, a two person relay, speed bounce, standing long jump, standing triple jump, and
chest push. The day culminated in a six person by two lap relay which provided
for an exciting finale to the day. All athletes received personalised score cards
which can be used not only to gauge their performances at this time of the season, but to benchmark these against past and
future event in the Sportshall series.
The other Lifford athletes that travelled
included Jessica McLaughlin, Ben White, James Russell, Cormac O’Donnell, Zara Russell, Amy Stewart, Brandon Connolly,
Conor Lynch, Megan Hannigan, Barry McLaughlin, Jenny McGettigan, Conor McKinney, Ciaran McBrearty, Ryan Bradley, and Megan
Colhoun. Well done to all these athletes with some exceptional performances right
across the board. Thanks to the various parent that travelled to lend their support
and to the club coaches that travelled to manage the teams.
