The club held the first of its weekly Letto draws on Wednesday evening 30th June.  Part of our extensive drive to raise 175,000 towards the development of our new track, we had a tremendous response in our first week, something which we can build upon.  No Jackpot winner this week, but four lucky entrants win 25eur each.  Next Week's Jackpot 550eur.  Winners....

 

Well done to our two Under 9 athletes Ryan Stewart and Wilson Craig who made the long trip to Templemore, Co Tipperary last weekend for the All Ireland Childrens Games.  Both these young athletes put in excellent performances in both the long jump and the ball throw.  Wilson secured a personal best long jump of 2.85m, with Ryan also securing personal bests in the long jump and ball throw.  Their combined team performances saw them finish in a very creditable 8th place in both events.  Hopefully the first of many ventures to the All Irelands for these young athletes.

Anyone interested in running the Lifford 5K can pre-register their details and receive a pre-allocated race number.  A separate On Line Registration Desk will be in operation where the race number can be collected and payment made.  With 100+ runners expected, this should speed things up for runners.  Click for On Line Entry

 

These Games for Under 9-13 were held today at the new tartan track in Shercock.  The club brought 30 athletes to the event with some excellent results all around. 11 medals, 18 qualifiers for the All Irelands, several more missing out by one place, and many many personal bests.  An excellent day for club athletes. Day One of the Donegal Championships will be held at the Danny McDaid track in Letterkenny this Tuesday 1st June starting 6.30pm.  We are encouraging all athletes in the age categories 1999, 1998, 1997, etc etc up to Senior & Masters to participate in these County Championships. Meeting up times will be given out at training on Monday evening.

The club will bring a contingent of 31 athletes to the Ulster Children's Games in Shercock, Co. Cavan this weekend.  Ranging in age category from Under 9 to 13, all these young athletes are capable of mixing it with the best in Ulster with All Ireland qualification one of the potential rewards from the weekend.  The club will take a bus, leaving the track at 7.00am.  Anyone wishing to travel on the bus should contact 086-6007847 asap.  A further update regarding what to bring, etc will issue later in the week.

Donegal Children's Games (2000-2003)
The Donegal Children's Games for athletes born between 2000 and 2003 will be held on Thursday 6th May in the Finn Valley Centre, Stranorlar at 6.30pm.  We hope all our young athletes will travel to this competition as events for the forthcoming Ulster Games at the end of the month will be selected.

Death of Mickey Joe Doherty - Strabane Track Club

The club was saddened to learn of the death of MIckey Joe Doherty from the Strabane Track Club on Saturday.  A familiar face at the Lifford club, Mickey Joe was a member of the Lifford mens team that finished an excellent 5th in the Omega National League in 1980.  Our sincerest sympathies to his family and to his friends at Strabane Track Club.

Juvenile Update

Good Luck to Conor McKinney who competes in the Triple Jump on the Donegal Sportshall team at the West Ulster Finals in Enniskillen this Thursday.  Well done to Conor on his bronze medal achievement in the high jump at last weekends Ulster Indoors at the Odyssey.  Well done to all the other athletes that competed in Belfast including Jenny McGettigan, Tianna Ward, Nicole Stewart, Ciaran McBrearty and Megan Colhoun.  In most cases, new personal bests were achieved which augurs well for the upcoming Track and Field season.

 

Training continues on Mondays and Wednesdays for all athletes, with special training sessions for aged 10 and over on Saturday mornings at 11am.  A full attendance at all training sessions is encouraged.

Senior Group

A new Senior group has been formed within the club.  At this stage, the group is primarily a running group but is open to anyone interested in general fitness, road races, marathons, or competitive track and field athletics.  Initially the group will meet at the track every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm from where a variety of different training sessions will take place.  These sessions will be extended to additional days in the week as time goes on.  New members are always welcome.  Please contact 086 6007847 for further information.

Welcome Back....New Saturday Morning Training

We would like to welcome all our athletes and their parents back after an extended Christmas break.  We look forward to 2010 with enthusiasm and hope to build on a successful year for our club and its athletes last year.

 

To prepare for the forthcoming Ulster indoors, the club will hold an additional training session on Saturday mornings for athletes aged 10 and over.  This training will be event specific and will help athletes in their preparation for individual events at both indoors and track and field.  Training starts this Saturday morning from 11am to 12.30pm.  Contact club coaches for further information.
